Term 2 Week 4 "We are sailing! We are sailing!"

Lucky, Lucky, Us!

This week we had a simply AMAZING time 

on the sea of the Waitemata Harbour

learning to sail Optimist boats!

We all wanted to say a really BIG THANK YOU!

to The Lion Foundation, Auckland Sailing Club, St John's Rotary, Zhik wetsuits and Volvo for making this happen for us!

No one in our class had ever sailed before so it was a lot to learn.

Our instructors, JR, Justin and Steve, were very patient and 

they gave really clear instructions and they didn't

mind repeating things a few times till we got it.

Are you all ready to learn to sail and have some fun?

This is called the sail and you need a pole to push it all the way up.

Who wants to try to tie an '8' knot?

The part that swings around at the bottom of the sail is the boom.

Does everyone have their life jacket?

Line up shortest to tallest please, so you can get the right size wet suit.

We started from Okahu Bay by the Auckland Sailing Club

and then we went out beyond the barrier to where

the Waiheke ferries go! Sometimes it got a bit bumpy

but we felt really safe with our wet suits and 

life jackets, (and our instructors and teachers 

were right there in the inflatable boats to help).

Get ready to push your trailer with its boat into the water.

That's right use the tiller to steer your boat to the right, the left or straight.

Good job Kaulave and Aleki!

Let's make sure you are both in the boat first.

After we had lunch we went sailing again. This time we had to try to capsize our boats, that means to tip it over. We needed to see that our life jackets would hold us up and keep us floating. And they did!

When we finally came back in to shore the tide had gone out a long way and it was very shallow so we could easily walk through the water.

That was the best day ever! (So far this year.)

Term 2 Week 3

Room 9 led the whole school assembly this week.

We designed our very own Rhythm Clap based on the Samoan Slap.

We added our own special moves to make it show more of what sports Room 9 likes to play. Can you name them?

Ocean's Blog Post about the Manaiakalani Survey

The Manaiakalani survey was good because they tell other people if you are learning and creating or not and whether your family are commenting on your sharing. The survey is good to go on to see if you like to learn on a chromebook.  Mrs Collins helped us complete the survey with Room 7.

I really really liked the  Manaiakalani questionnaire because I like the nice question.  Some of the question where tricky. My favourite question was about our opinion.

Welcome Everyone to 

Term 2!

We hope everyone had a good break and got to enjoy the lovely weather in the holidays.

Back to our learning, yay!

This week Room 9 have started the fabulous KiwiCan programme!

We had a fabulous first session with Miss Tuia on Tuesday.

We learned about the values and goals of KiwiCan.

We also learned the rules for taking part.

We played a game called GKQ. 

Can you guess what that stands for?

Yes - General Knowledge Questions.

We went in fours and you had to touch the floor,

touch your forehead and say your name for your buzzer.

It was lots of fun!

Term 1 Week 10 Ahoy There Whanau and Friendly Viewers!

Ahoy There Whanau and Friendly Viewers!

Have you ever seen a pirate up close, been part of the ocean, worn a pirate hat?

This week we were very lucky

to go to the Pumphouse Theatre in 

Takapuna

and watch a very entertaining

show called:

'The Man Whose Mother Was a Pirate'

based on the book by Margaret Mahy.

First we had to go on the bus.

So many seats!

We saw lots of sites on the way.

Mt Wellington - so green!

We went on the motorway.

So many cars, trucks and buses.

We saw the Sky Tower.

So high.

We saw the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

So wide.

We went over the bridge and arrived at the Pumphouse Theatre.

We got out of the bus and walked down the path to the Theatre.

It is beside Lake Pupuke, we saw swans on the lake.

Then a Pirate lady ushered us into our seats in the Theatre.

We had to wear Pirate hats.

"Aagh, me hearties!'

"Aye, Aye, Captain!"

It was a great show and then we had a photo

with the cast.

We want to say thank you to the Tim Bray Theatre Company at the Pumphouse and to Maungakiekie Tamaki Local Board for

making this happen. Thank You!
