Term 1 Week 8 Marvellous Measuring!

Kia Ora Whanau and Friendly Blog Watchers!

This week the magnificent Ruapotaka Warriors Group
of Room 9 have been learning about how to
measure with cms and mms.

We had to find out the length of our hop, stretch and jump to see who has the longest, shortest and the same size.

We worked with our group and took turns. We had to get a metre ruler and two 40cm rulers. We used a string too. We had to hold it on the start line and then took it up to where the ruler showed how far the person had gone.
Christina did 165cms for the hop.
Aleki was the longest for the hop at 200cms.
Willie was the shortest for the hop at 87cms.
Kyronae did 105cms for the hop.
That was a really long hop Aleki!
Super stretch Kyronae and Christina!
Good jump Willie!
Good balancing for that hop Christina!

Term 1 Week 7 Fantastic Fantasy Bird Creations!

Kia Ora Whanau and Friendly Viewers!

We wanted to share our artistic creations.
Have you ever really studied how the feathers look on a bird's wings? Well we have!
We have looked at lots of New Zealand birds as part of learning about what makes Aotearoa a special place.

After that, we had a chance to design our own birds! This could be anything we chose! Our imaginations went wild!
Here are the results.

Silver Ferns Group are using the cover sheet to make sure
that they don't smudge the chalk pastels as they create
their fantasy birds.
Group Ruapotaka Warriors are using the chalk pastels to
make a bright and colourful outline of their birds.

Group Aotearoa are concentrating on applying detail to the wings of their birds.

Group Tangaroa are choosing their colours to make their
fantasy birds be eye-catching!

We hope you enjoyed viewing
them as much as we enjoyed
making them!

Term 1 Week 6 Terrific Time with Toitoi!

Kia Ora Whanau and Friendly Viewers!

Have you ever heard of Toitoi?
It is a terrific publication of stories and illustrations by New Zealand school students!
This photo shows the front cover of the latest publication.
On Friday this week we had some enthusiastic visitors from
Price Waterhouse Coopers, (a local Auckland company),
who came to share this book and its stories and pictures with us.
They also delivered to us a box full of these very
interesting and entertaining books. THANK YOU PWC!
We loved reading them with you and to you!
We liked having discussions about the stories.

We all got a chance to choose which story we would like to read. Nice leprechaun Mrs H!

Great shady spot for your reading Group 5!

Great reading Aleki! Nice cape Ms Riley!

That must be a really cool story!

We liked the poem and the amazing illustrations for this one!

This group had a lot to say about this story!

Awesome expression with your reading Solomon! You made the story sound even more interesting!

Charlotte and her team thanked us for having them and we thanked them
and sang one of our school songs for them.

It was cool sharing our reading skills and having discussions about the stories in the latest Toitoi!
Some of us are hoping to get our stories and illustrations published in the next issue!

Term 1 Week 6 Super Senior Assembly by Room 9

Super Senior Assembly!

This week Room 9 led the Senior School Assembly. We chose our presenters and decided on what happened and in what order it happened. We picked two songs for us all to sing and we rehearsed a lot.

Kyronae and Willie were the award winners this week, well done you two!

Our presenters were Christina, DJ, Ngahuia and Iosefo.
Here are the Room 10 award winners - Militina, Juanita and Sebastian.

Here are the Room 12 winners - Leeza and Leaepeni.

Congratulations to all the award winners!

Charles and Aleki introduced the song 'Don't Give it Up' by Six60.

We played Maths Bang. For this activity we had to listen for an equation to be said then, a name to be called out. Then the two people on each side of that person had to say the answer and say Bang! The first one to say it is the winner.

Sosephina and Shelan were very brave and had to use strong voices to thank everyone for coming to our assembly. Then they asked the teachers to take their classes out when they were ready.

Thank you all for coming to our Senior School Assembly!

Swim Show Term 1 Week 5

Kia Ora Whanau!
We have really enjoyed having swimming every day, and, on Thursday and Friday this week, we got to show our skills to some of our whanau.
Big THANK YOU to Kaulave's Mum and Sister  and Willie's Mum for coming to watch us!

THANK YOU Kaulave's Mum and Sister
for coming to watch us swim!

THANK YOU Willie's Mum for coming to see us!
We are competing in a relay race  with our team.
We are trying to be first to get the hoop to the end.

We are doing our best back stroke, moving our arms up and back in a smooth motion and
kicking our legs while keeping our body straight.
Here is the hoop again! Go swimmers Go!

Great back stroke arm action!

We are ready to enter the water.

Some great kicking and floating here!

"We had a terrific time showing our skills in the water."
Room 9 and Mrs Honore. (Some people were not swimming
