Farewell Mrs Honore and Well done Speech Finalists!

Kia Ora Whanau and Friendly Viewers!

It is with sadness that I am making this last post today.
I have enjoyed my time with these fabulous students for three terms
but it is time for me to go.
Mrs Ravina Devi will be taking over in
Room 9 from the beginning of term 4.
She has spent some time in our class doing the
release for testing and mural time, so she knows all
our lovely students and our schoo
l systems.

We were all very proud of our Speech Finalists who
spoke confidently, used expression and had
some very interesting things to say!

Iosefo spoke about Pollution. 'Clean It Up!'

Willie spoke about 'What I Want to be When I
grow up - a Teacher!'

Ocean spoke about 'My Baby Brother'.

Ocean came third out of all the Senior Speakers,
Well done Ocean!

Iosefo telling everyone to Clean It Up with Pollution.

Ocean made us laugh when he talked about babies.

Willie told us what things he will do with his students when he is a teacher.

All the finalists received a certificate for doing an excellent speech.

Enjoy the holidays with your whanau and come back ready to learn for our final term!

'Bring It On! with Tim Tipene! Term 3 Week 9

Kia Ora Whanau and Friendly Viewers!

We had a very special visitor this week as part
of the Duffy Books programme.

His name is Tim Tipene and he is an author of
children's books. But before he became
famous for that he had a life that was a lot like us.

He told us about his family and when he was
growing up. He told us about two of his teachers
who had made a difference in his life. One of them
was knick named Mrs Battleship and he has written
a book about her. She is still his friend today and
he goes to visit her every week.

He is a really good story teller! We all listened
really carefully and we laughed at the funny parts.
Tim used a lot of expression to share his story.

We really loved 'Hinemoa te Toa', the book that he
shared with us. It was exciting when she kept saying
'Bring It On!' to the taniwha and the bullies.

Then Tim presented the Duffy books to the best readers
for this week.

Hinemoa Te Toa!

Bring It On!

Hinemoa was ready to fight the taniwha.

Well done Shelan with your reading this week!

Great reading everyone!

Hello Harold! Term 3 Week 8

Kia Ora Whanau and Friendly Viewers!

Welcome to another week of learning
and laughter in Room 5!

We had special visitors at school this week,
I'm sure you guessed who it was!
Yes, Harold and Lynne, (his trusty assistant)!

We learned a lot about resolving conflict
and how our feelings are affected by how our
amygdala reacts to what we see and hear.
We learned some techniques for helping
us to deal with situations when there
might be a conflict with other students.

We listened carefully to Lynne to find out about our body's reactions when we have conflict.

We were really interested to see what our heart does!

This is our brain. Can you see the small brown part that is
being shown? That is the amygdala.

More parts of our bodies.

And then we got to talk to Harold!

It was narrow in the caravan but we all found a space to sit and have a sing-a-long with Harold!

Thank you Harold, Lynne and Life Education!
We learned a lot and we laughed a lot too!

Not only Tongan Language Week but also the Skip Off!

We have been practicing our skipping this week too.
We had a Skip Off on Friday and some of
the parents were able to come and watch.

Different year levels had to skip off against each other,
to see who could skip for the longest time
without stopping.

Our very own Aleki was the winner in our year level
and Iosefo was second. Well done boys!

Here is Aleki on the left and Iosefo in the middle doing
the endurance skip for who can skip the longest.
It was lovely to have Kaulave's Mum come and watch us!
The girls went first for our demonstration.
Then it was the boys' turn.
Lastly, we used the long rope and all had turns doing individual,
pairs and three at a time.

It was a fun time, even though the rain
kept wanting to join in!

Malo e lelei for Term 3 Week 7 Tongan Language Week!

Malo e lelei Whanau and Friendly Viewers!

What a terrific week of learning it has been for us!

We had different Tongan students come to our
class each afternoon to teach us about Tonga
and Tongan language.

Then we had a fabulous assembly where each
class got to show some of their learning about Tonga.

Room 5 did a lovely song called 'E otua'.

All of our Tongan students dressed in their cultural clothing.

Us singing our song to the assembly.
Then Kaulave and Aleki performed the Tongan Haka
with some of the Room 8A boys. It was very
impressive! Gave us 'goosebumps'!
Well done boys!

We all felt very proud of our presentation and
our Tongan students!

Price Waterhouse Coopers Financial Literacy! Term 3 Week 6

Kia Ora Whanu and Friendly Viewers!
Week 6 has been so interesting with
our visitors from PWC,
(that is, Price Waterhouse Coopers).

Our tutors were Hari, Elliot and Christie.
They taught us about saving money,
spending wisely and trust.

Elliot and Christie introduced the programme and gave out the booklets.

We read through it carefully and wrote our answers.

We did role plays to show what we might do in different
situations. Elliot helped with this one.

Christie worked with Ocean to do this role play.

We all got a certificate at the end.

THANK YOU PWC! We had fun and we learned a lot.
